Master Bedroom and Guest room pavilions overlooking Western Port bay

Main Living and library pavilions looking out towards the Yarra Ranges

We were asked to undertake a concept design for this picturesque outer Melbourne site (Upper Beaconsfield) set amongst rolling hills with a 270 degree view to Western Port Bay in the far distance. The brief was for a generous 4-bedroom home with specific design references from the client for their Forever home – including Tuscan and traditional Farmhouse styles. Importance was placed on upon using stone as a construction material, potentially even sourced from the rocky site itself. Our response was to create a spatial journey, gradually revealing aspects of the view. The circulation spine tied together a series of pavilions each of which were orientated to specific views. The services were placed at the core which allowed the living spaces at the periphery to radiate out into the surrounding terraced landscaping. Ultimately the final concept is one rooted deeply in the site context. It evokes the spirit of place whilst also facilitating a complex brief for contemporary living.
